Welcome to My Red Cape. Long ago in another time my husband Jack and I lived in a little old red house. It was the stuff of dreams to us for the few years that we were there. I live there still a number of hours every day in imagination, with old dolls and paintings and fabrics and feather trees. I draw inspiration and happiness from the memories of that space in time and share some of it here with friends who remember how to step with Alice through the looking glass and take delight in whimsies and antiquities.

For more than sixty years I have studied, collected, repaired, and bought and sold antique dolls. They have been back ground music in my life at every stage, sometimes louder, sometimes subdued, but always there with me. To see only the posts about dolls on this blog, click the banner on the right titled Dolls for My Red Cape. Keep clicking “Older Posts” to see more. Some of the posts featuring rug hooking are gathered under the banner For Cathy. From time to time items are offered for sale under the banner “O’Neill’s Antiques” which was our shop name for many years. ~Edyth O’Neill

John F. O'Neill II 1939-2012

My beloved Jackie has passed away December 28th about 2:15 pm...

At home here and in peace.  This of course is the hardest thing of my life. We had a long time to talk of it and he told me repeatedly he wanted me to survive and live forward..  I will be ok by and by, and wear Jack’s love like mink around my shoulders the rest of my life. e

Thank you for the comments here, I read each and every one more than once and thank you for the affection and support in them.

  13. Dear Edyth,

How very sad to hear of your husband's passing.

"We have many men who make up our lives
Father, brother, grandfather and son, but the one that we call husband is the one who we attach our heart and live as one with the solemn oath that until death we do part.
God gives us many gifts in life, parents, children, even friends; but the special gift is in a blessed union to the one true love of our lives, and that is the one we call husband.
Lucky is the woman who finds that special man; the one true love from which all love springs."
Edyth, you found that love with your Jack and he with you.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this most difficult time.

    With Sympathy,
    Mary Wicks

  39. My husband past away 16 months ago. I still really miss him and I too have to go on. He is sometimes my first thought in the morning and the last at night. I journal every day. One side of my journal is the current thoughts , the other side of my journal was our life together. I don't want to forget and want to share with my family someday. I even included memories he had with the grandchildren. My prayers are with with. I am so sorry.

  46. Edyth, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your husband Jack.

Through reading the pages of Rugs for my Red Cape, I could feel the love you both shared in filling your home with your creations and making it a comfortable, lovely home.

Bask in the joyful memories of your life together and allow yourself the time to feel however you may each day. No feelings are wrong.

Thank you for inspiring a fellow rug hooker. Your work is truly beautiful.

  47. Dear (((Edyth))) - I am so very sorry to read this. You and Jack made the loveliest couple and he was such a talented, knowledgeable and distinguished character, by virtue of those talents and knowledge, in his own right. I am sure you are very sad and lonely, and there are no words that can take that away, little comfort can come from one who hardly knew you both- yet I know you know how lucky you were to have had Jack in your life. He was an artist who together with you, melded your arts and love and laughter and thoughts and creativity into a masterpiece of life. I send you thoughts for strength and comfort and calm - Patra
